Piazza Navona: Real Sculpture in Rome

Piazza Navona is a very famed square in Rome, Italy.  This piazza, which was designated as so in the late 15th century, is, without a doubt, the pride of the Baroque Rome.  Piazza Navona is very well-known since it boasts great architectural and sculptural creations by magnificent artists such as Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Francesco Brorromini, Pietro da Cortona and Girolamo Rainaldi.  Furthermore, among the monuments you will be able to see face to face, you have the Stabilimenti Spagnoli, Palazzo Torres Massimo Lancellotti, the famous Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi or the Fountain of the Four Rivers in English, Palazzo de Cupis, the Church of Nostra Signora del Sacro Cuore and the Church of Sant’Agnese in Agone.  The square comprises two amazing additional fountains in the northern and southern areas of the piazza respectively that were sculpted by Giacomo della Porta: the Fontana di Nettuno and the Fontana del Moro.

Piazza Novona is also home for great traditional spectacles such as costume and theatrical shows, buffalo jousts and horse races.  One amazing fact about this piazza is that the square turned into a great lake in order to celebrate the Pamphilj (Pamphili) family every single Sunday and Saturday of August since 1652.  The Pamphili family is one of the most famous Papal families that were involved in politics during the 16th and 17th centuries in Roma.

It is not difficult for you to find lots of cafes in which you can take pleasure in.  In the summer time, several buskers, artists painting or drawing people in the public for a small fee and/or mimes are easily found there. It is also a marvelous activity to go there during Christmas time to see the huge amounts of lights of the stalls and the crèches.  In particular, children love it!  Thus, this amazing attraction is waiting for you in order to show you every single out-of-this-world trait for which this piazza is so famed.  Do not miss the opportunity and experiment it on your own.
