Sezze
Italy, officially the Italian Republic or Repubblica Italiana, is a Southern European country comprising of the Po River valley, the Italian Peninsula and the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily and Sardinia. It is shaped like a boot and for this reason Italians commonly call it lo Stivale, the boot or, due to its prevalent peninsular geographical nature, la Penisola, the Peninsula.
Inhabitants of Italy are referred to as Italians. Their official language is Standard Italian, descendant of Tuscan dialect and a direct descendant of Latin. The word Italy is derived from the Homeric Aeolic word which means bull. Italy is subject to highly diverse weather conditions in autumn, winter, and spring. The country has the fifth-highest population density in Europe at 193 persons per square kilometer. Today, despite regional variations in the form of accents and vowel emphasis, Italian is fully comprehensible to most throughout the country.
Sezze is a small city in the province of Latina, Italy, about 90 kilometers south from Rome. The historical center of Sezze is located on one high hill commanding the Pontina plain. The salubrity of the climate has been appreciated and praised since the Roman Age has been confirmed from recent studies. In 2004, the population of the city was 22,835 and an area of 101 square kilometers. According to a legend, the city was founded by the legendary hero Hercules after his victory on the Lestrigones, a population of southern Lazio.
The city of Sezze lies at the top of a hill while the town has expanded outside the ancient walls on the eastern side; the walls are still limiting it on the side towards the plain where there is a precipitous slope, similar to that of Norma. The main monument of Sezze is its medieval cathedral, built having in mind the pattern set by Cistercian abbeys, but this was upset in the early 16th century when the orientation of the church was reversed and the apse was turned into the entrance with a final result which is rather unique. Sezze is an attractive city with natural beauty and historical places, while traveling in Italy.
