Scafati




Italy, officially the Italian Republic or Repubblica Italiana, is a Southern European country comprising of the Po River valley, the Italian Peninsula and the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily and Sardinia. It is shaped like a boot and for this reason Italians commonly call it lo Stivale, the boot or, due to its prevalent peninsular geographical nature, la Penisola, the Peninsula.
 
Inhabitants of Italy are referred to as Italians. Their official language is Standard Italian, descendant of Tuscan dialect and a direct descendant of Latin. The word Italy is derived from the Homeric Aeolic word which means bull. Italy is subject to highly diverse weather conditions in autumn, winter, and spring. The country has the fifth-highest population density in Europe at 193 persons per square kilometer. Today, despite regional variations in the form of accents and vowel emphasis, Italian is fully comprehensible to most throughout the country.
 
Scafati belongs to the province of Salerno and is 32 kilometers away Salerno, which is the Chief Town of the homonymous province. Scafati has a population of 47,082 inhabitants and a surface of 19.7 square kilometers thus showing a population density of 238,995 inhabitants per square kilometer. It rises 12 metres above the sea level.
 
The municipality of Scafati had a popolation of 40,710 inhabitants accordingly to the results of the national census made in 1991. After the national census made in 2001 the population was 47,082 inhabitants, thus showing during the years from 1991 to 2001 a percentual variation of 15.65 percent inhabitants. The inhabitants are distributed in 13,868 families with an average of 3.40 people per family.
 
The territory of the municipality lies between 6 and 33 metres above sea level. The altimetric span is thus of 27 meters. There are 150 industrial firms employing 1,568 people that are the 25.80 percent of the total of the workers. There are 860 service firms employing 1,294 people that are the 21.29 percent of the total of the workers. There are also 695 firms employing 1,350 people that are the 22.21 percent of the total of the workers. There are also 57 administrative offices emplying 1,866 workers that are the 30.70 percent of the total of the workers.
