Recanati




Italy, officially the Italian Republic or Repubblica Italiana, is a Southern European country comprising of the Po River valley, the Italian Peninsula and the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily and Sardinia. It is shaped like a boot and for this reason Italians commonly call it lo Stivale, the boot or, due to its prevalent peninsular geographical nature, la Penisola, the Peninsula.
 
Inhabitants of Italy are referred to as Italians. Their official language is Standard Italian, descendant of Tuscan dialect and a direct descendant of Latin. The word Italy is derived from the Homeric Aeolic word which means bull. Italy is subject to highly diverse weather conditions in autumn, winter, and spring. The country has the fifth-highest population density in Europe at 193 persons per square kilometer.
 
Recanati is a town in the province of Macerata, Italy. It was the hometown of the famous tenor, Beniamino Gigli and poet, Giacomo Leopardi and was the reason why the town is called as the city of poetry. Recanati was established around year 1150 from three previous castles. In 1290, Recanati declared itself as a sovereign republic and in the 15th century, it became famous for its international fair. In March 1798, it was defeated by Napoleon Bonaparte.
 
The city of Recanati had a fairly large Jewish population for hundreds of years. The city produced scholars like Rabbi Menachem Recanati from 1223 to 1290. He was the author of the Kabbalistic work, The reasons of the Mitzvot. He was a student of Rabbi Elazar Rokeiach from 1165 to 1238 from Worms in Germany. He was one of the Chassidei Ashkenaz, a group of German pietists. His work, Sefer HaRokeiach guides to ethics and he wrote a mystical commentary on the Torah. Rabbi Elazar Rokeiach. This commentary was the teacher of Nachmanides, whom Rabbi Recanati quotes in his work.
 
As it is often regarded as among the most beautiful parts of Italy, it is one of the most visited places amongst the most die-hard travelers the world over.
