Putignano




Italy, officially the Italian Republic or Repubblica Italiana, is a Southern European country comprising of the Po River valley, the Italian Peninsula and the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily and Sardinia. It is shaped like a boot and for this reason Italians commonly call it lo Stivale, the boot or, due to its prevalent peninsular geographical nature, la Penisola, the Peninsula.
 
Putigano is a town and commune in the province of Bari, Puglia, Italy. It is constructed on three necks to 375 meters above sea level and 18 kilometers from the same one. Its ancient village is of elliptic shape. Putignano is 47.7 kilometers far from Bari that is the chief town of the homonymous province to whom the municipality belongs. Putignano has a population of 28.176 inhabitants and a surface of 9911 square kilometers thus showing a population density of 284.3 inhabitants per square kilometer. It rises 372 metres above the sea level.
 
The municipality of Putignano had a popolation of 26,992 inhabitants accordingly to the results of the national census made in 1991. After the national census made in 2001 the population was 28,176 inhabitants, thus showing during the years 1991 to 2001 a percentual variation of 4 percent inhabitants. The inhabitants are distributed in 9873 families with an average of 2.85 people per family. The territory of the municipality lies between 293 and 456 metres above sea level. The altimetric spawn is thus of 163 metres.

There are 724 service firms employing 1,366 people that are the 11.88 percent of the total of the workers. There are also 589 firms employing 2,355 people that are the 20.49 percent of the total of the workers. There are a total of 11,495 workers that are the 40.80 percent of the inhabitants of the municipality.
