Osimo
Italy, officially the Italian Republic is a Southern European country. It comprises the Po River valley, the Italian Peninsula and the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily and Sardinia. It is shaped like a boot and for this reason Italians commonly call it lo Stivale, the boot, or due to its prevalent peninsular geographical nature, la Penisola, the Peninsula. Italy is called, Il Belpaese, Italian for beautiful country by its inhabitants, due to the beauty and variety of its landscapes and for having the world's largest artistic patrimony; the country is home to the greatest number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Rome is its Capital city and incidentally its largest city as well.
Osimo is a town and commune of the Marche, a region of central Italy, bordering Emilia-Romagna north, Tuscany to the north-west, Umbria to west, Abruzzo and Latium to the south and the Adriatic Sea to the east, Italy, in the province of Ancona, 15 kilometers south of that town by rail. As of 2004, the population of Osimo was 30,239 inhabitants within an area of 105 square kilometers and has a population density of 280 inhabitants per square kilometer. It is known for its Silk-spinning and the raising of cocoons industry that’s carried on.
Osimo retains a portion of its ancient town wall of the 2nd century BCE, Before Christian Era. The restored Cathedral has a portal with sculptures of the 13th century, an old crypt, a fine bronze font of the 16th century and a series of portraits of all the bishops of the see, the town hall contains a number of statues found on the site of the ancient forum and also a few good pictures. There’s also a 15th century Castle which was built by Baccio Pontelli.
As it is often regarded as among the most beautiful parts of Italy, it is one of the most visited places amongst the most die-hard travelers the world over.
