Italy, officially the Italian Republic or Repubblica Italiana, is a Southern European country comprising of the Po River valley, the Italian Peninsula and the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily and Sardinia. It is shaped like a boot and for this reason Italians commonly call it lo Stivale, the boot or, due to its prevalent peninsular geographical nature, la Penisola, the Peninsula.

Although the industrial sector in Napoli is losing force in the last decades, the might of the sector services continues attracting new inhabitants in the city. Thus, in 2004, there was a total 40,413 foreigners in greater Napoli, numbering slightly over 1.3 percent of the entire population.

The international airport of Napoli-Capodichino is the most vital in southern Italy measured by amount of traffic. In 1995, the historic centre of Napoli was affirmed as the world heritage site by UNESCO, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. There are many attractions within the city including the old Greco-Roman reservoirs dug out from the soft tufo stone on which, and from which, the city is built.

Napoli, justifiably so, enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers, and is one of the most visited places. It is also the place of best geographical environment and can trace its origin back to prehistoric times.
