Mirandola
Italy, officially the Italian Republic or Repubblica Italiana, is a Southern European country comprising of the Po River valley, the Italian Peninsula and the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily and Sardinia. It is shaped like a boot and for this reason Italians commonly call it lo Stivale, the boot or, due to its prevalent peninsular geographical nature, la Penisola, the Peninsula. Mirandola is one of Italy’s most popular destinations, and is well known for the quantity of cultural related attractions and monuments that the city has embraced. It is a city is a city of Emilia-Romagna, in the province of Modena, 31 kilometers to the northeast of it by railway and 59 feet above the sea-level. Mirandola has a population of 22.068 inhabitants and a surface of 1371 square kilometers thus showing a population density of 16096 inhabitants per square kilometer. As of 2004, the city has a population of 22,550. Mirandola’s memorials are the hypotheses to decipher that include the Palazzo del Comune which is a 15th century edifice of Gothic style. The castle of the Pico family, who held the town from the 14th century to 1710, when the last member was deprived of his dominions by Joseph I of Austria, has been recently restored and it is now open to the public. The height of the fortunes of this family was from about 1450 to 1550, Giovanni Pico della Mirandola being its ablest and most learned member. The cathedral, dating from the end of the 16th century, has been restored S. Francesco is a fine Gothic church. Presently, Mirandola experiences a sharp social, economic and population growth derivative of the strategic position of the locality and the high level of well-being and quality of life that is enjoyed with respect to other places of Italy.
