Massafra




Italy, officially the Italian Republic or Repubblica Italiana, is a Southern European country comprising of the Po River valley, the Italian Peninsula and the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily and Sardinia. It is shaped like a boot and for this reason Italians commonly call it lo Stivale, the boot or, due to its prevalent peninsular geographical nature, la Penisola, the Peninsula.
 
Massafra is a town and commune in the Taranto province in the Apulia region of southeast Italy. Massafra is 188 kilometers far from Taranto that is the chief town of the homonymous province to whom the municipality belongs. Massafra has a population of 30.923 inhabitants and a surface of 12549 square kilometers thus showing a population density of 2464 inhabitants per square kilometer. It rises 110 meters above the sea level.
 
The municipality of Massafra had a population of 30,623 inhabitants accordingly to the results of the national census made in 1991. After the national census made in 2001 the population was 30,923 inhabitants, thus showing during the years 1991 to 2001 a perceptual variation of 1 percent inhabitants. The inhabitants are distributed in 10,046 families with an average of 3.08 people per family. The territory of the municipality lies between 0 and 480 meters above sea level. The altimetric spawn is thus of 480 meters.
 
Massafra is also known as the town of best geographical environment and has traced its origins back to prehistoric times. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and can also enjoy its natural beauty concealed by the beautiful landscapes.
