Lugo
Italy, officially the Italian Republic or Repubblica Italiana, is a Southern European country comprising of the Po River valley, the Italian Peninsula and the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily and Sardinia. It is shaped like a boot and for this reason Italians commonly call it lo Stivale, the boot or, due to its prevalent peninsular geographical nature, la Penisola, the Peninsula.
Lugo is a community in northwestern Spain, in the autonomous community of Galicia. It is the capital of the province of Lugo. The municipality had a population of 92,271 in the year 2005. The city was founded by Paulus Fabius Maximus and called Lucus Augusti in 13 BC on the positioning of a Roman military camp, whilst the Roman Empire completed the conquest, in the North, of the Iberian Peninsula. Located in what was the Roman province of Hispania Tarraconensis, Lugo was the chief town of the tribe of the Capori.
The district of Lugo which embraces all the province of Lugo and part of Pontevedra and Coruna in Galicia, Spain, is a suffragan of Santiago de Compostela. It is the only city in Europe to be surrounded by completely intact Roman walls, which reach a height of 10 to 15 meters with 71 towers.
A city known for its historic myths and traditions, scenic beauty, cooperative people and luxurious hotels and cottages, Lugo is one of the favorite holiday destinations for most of the vacation lovers.
