Lainate
Italy, officially the Italian Republic or Repubblica Italiana, is a Southern European country comprising of the Po River valley, the Italian Peninsula and the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily and Sardinia. It is shaped like a boot and for this reason Italians commonly call it lo Stivale, the boot or, due to its prevalent peninsular geographical nature, la Penisola, the Peninsula.
Lainate is one of Italy’s most popular destinations, and is well known for the quantity of cultural related attractions and monuments that the city has embraced. It is a commune in the province of Milan in the Lombardy region, located about 15 kilometers to the northwest region of Milan. Lainate’s geographical location reveals it to be at around 45 degrees North and 9 degrees to the East in Italy.
Lainate has a total area of 12.9 square kilometers and a population total as of December 2004 with 24,146 inhabitants. It is surrounded by Pertusella, Origgio, Garbagnate Milanese, Nerviano, Arese, Rho, and Pogliano Milanese municipalities thus making it both as a tourist centre and a dormitory city. The municipality of Lainate contains the subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets that include Barbaiana, Grancia, and Pagliera.
Presently, the industrial development in Lainate has been a determining factor for its economic growth and population and although the industry is losing force in the last decades, the might of the sector services continues attracting new inhabitants in the city.
