Fucecchio
Italy, officially the Italian Republic or Repubblica Italiana, is a Southern European country comprising of the Po River valley, the Italian Peninsula and the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily and Sardinia. It is shaped like a boot and for this reason Italians commonly call it lo Stivale, the boot or, due to its prevalent peninsular geographical nature, la Penisola, the Peninsula. Fucecchio is a town and comune of the Firenze province in the Italian region of Tuscany, Located at 25 meters above sea level. According to the 2003 census, its population was 21,400. The main economical resources of the city are the leather industries, shoes industry and other manufacturing activities. Although in the recent years their number has been decreasing because of a slight recession started. Fucecchio is 443 kilometers far from Firenze, that is the Chief Town of the homonymous province to whom the municipality belongs. Fucecchio has a population of 21.111 inhabitants and a surface of 65,14 square kilometers thus showing a population density of 324,09 inhabitants per square kilometer. It raises 25 metres above the sea level. The municipality of Fucecchio had a popolation of 20.540 inhabitants accordingly to the results of the national census made in 1991. After the national census made in 2001 the population were 21.111 inhabitants, thus showing during the years 1991 - 2001 a percentual variation of 2,78 percent inhabitants. Fucecchio, justifiably so, enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers, and is one of the most visited place. It is also said the place of best geographical environment and can trace its origins back to prehistoric times.
