Francavilla Fontana is a town in the province of Brindisi located in Puglia, Italy in the province of Brindisi. It has a population of 36,000. The name Francavilla has French-Norman origins. Fontana means a vision of the Virgin Mary witnessed by a Prince, who thus declaring the town a tax-free haven, according to the local legend.

Francavilla Fontana is 345 kilometers far from Brindisi, that is the Chief Town of the homonymous province to whom the municipality belongs. The city has a population of 36.274 inhabitants and a surface of 175, 25 square kilometers thus showing a population density of 206, 9 inhabitants per square kilometer. It rises 140 metres above the sea level. The City Hall is located in Via Municipio.
 
The municipality of Francavilla Fontana had a popolation of 33.995 inhabitants as per the results of the national census made in 1991. After the national census made in 2001 the population was 36.274 inhabitants, thus showing during the years form 1991 to 2001 a variation of 7 percent inhabitants.  The inhabitants are disseminated in 12.419 families with an average of 292 people per family.
