Foggia

Italy, officially the Italian Republic or Repubblica Italiana, is a Southern European country comprising of the Po River valley, the Italian Peninsula and the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily and Sardinia. It is shaped like a boot and for this reason Italians commonly call it lo Stivale, the boot or, due to its prevalent peninsular geographical nature, la Penisola, the Peninsula.

Foggia is a city of Puglia, Italy, capital of the province of Foggia. Foggia is the main city of a plain called Capitanata, also known as the granary of Italy. The name Foggia derives from Latin foveas, meaning pits and it has a cathedral called Madonna dei Sette Veli, and a stadium called Pino Zaccheria home of the town's football team U.S. Foggia and plays in Serie.

The Province of Foggia is administratively divided into 64 Municipalities. The Parco nazionale del Gargano, established in 1995, is a peninsula partly mountainous and partly covered by the remains of an ancient forest, Foresta Umbra, the only remaining part in Italy of the ancient oak and beech forest that once covered much of Central Europe, and in the north are two major salty lakes, Lesina and Varano and the coastline is a sequel of greatly spectacular bays and cliffs, a paradise for summer tourism. Monte Gargano is also the site of the oldest shrine in Western Europe dedicated to the archangel Michael, Monte Sant'Angelo sul Gargano. Another area of great beauty is the arcipelago of the picturesque Tremiti islands.

Foggia can also be described as the best geographical environment and can trace its origins back to prehistoric times. This is evident from the archaeological sites found throughout Foggia. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and gain enthusiasm in its natural beauty and populace.
