Fermo




Italy, officially the Italian Republic or Repubblica Italiana, is a Southern European country comprising of the Po River valley, the Italian Peninsula and the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily and Sardinia. It is shaped like a boot and for this reason Italians commonly call it lo Stivale, the boot or, due to its prevalent peninsular geographical nature, la Penisola, the Peninsula.
 
Fermo is a town and comune of the Marche, Italy, previously in the province of Ascoli Piceno, and since 2004 in its own province. Fermo is located on a hill with a fine view, on a branch from Porto S. Giorgio on the Adriatic coast railway. In 1199 it became a free city, and remained independent until 1550, when it was annexed to the Papal States.
 
Fermo's attractions includes the Cathedral that was reconstructed in 1227 by Giorgio da Como and has fine mediaeval facade and campanile, as well as the side portal. The Roman theatre which has scanty traces of an amphitheatre also exist. Remains of the city wall, of rectangular blocks of hard limestone which may be seen just outside the Porta S. Francesco whether the walling under the Casa Porti belongs to them is doubtful and The medieval which had battlemented walls superposed on it and are picturesque.
 
Fermo is one of the most visited places. It enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers, and It is also said the place of best geographical environment and can trace its origins back to prehistoric times.
