Enna
Italy, officially the Italian Republic is a Southern European country. It comprises the Po River valley, the Italian Peninsula and the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily and Sardinia. It is shaped like a boot and for this reason Italians commonly call it lo Stivale, the boot, or due to its prevalent peninsular geographical nature, la Penisola, the Peninsula. Italy is called, Il Belpaese, Italian for beautiful country by its inhabitants, due to the beauty and variety of its landscapes and for having the world's largest artistic patrimony; the country is home to the greatest number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Rome is its Capital city and incidentally its largest city as well.
Enna, the ancient Henna, is a city located in the center of Sicily in the province of Enna, towering above the surrounding countryside. It has earned a few nicknames, such as belvedere, panoramic viewpoint, or the ombelico, navel, of Sicily. Enna is the highest provincial capital of Italy. It is situated at a height of 1,196 meters populated by 28,476 inhabitants, as of 2004, within an area of 357 square kilometers and has a population density of 81 inhabitants per square kilometer. Enna is now an important centre in archeological and educational studies. The University Kore of Enna. Enna’s main attractions are the Castello di Lombardìa, Lombardy Castle, perhaps the most important example of military architecture in Sicily, the Duomo, Cathedral, probably the most important example of religious architecture in Sicily, the Palazzo Varisano, housing the Regional Archaeological Museum of Enna, with material dating from the Copper Age to the 6th century AD, the Torre di Federico, an octagonal ancient tower, the Campanile of the destroyed church of San Giovanni, the Municipal Library placed in San Francesco building, the church of San Tommaso is also of note for its 15th century belfry, with three orders and the Janniscuru Gate is the only preserved one among the 7 old gates once located at the entrance of the town. Lake Pergusa is set between a group of mountains in the chain of Erei, and it is located 5 kilometers from Enna. As it is often regarded as among the most beautiful parts of Italy, it is one of the most visited places amongst the most die-hard travelers the world over.
