Desenzano del Garda
Italy, officially the Italian Republic or Repubblica Italiana, is a Southern European country comprising of the Po River valley, the Italian Peninsula and the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily and Sardinia. It is shaped like a boot and for this reason Italians commonly call it lo Stivale, the boot or, due to its prevalent peninsular geographical nature, la Penisola, the Peninsula. Desenzano del Garda is a commune in the Province of Brescia, in Lombardy, which borders Lake Garda. It is bordered by other communes of Castiglione delle Stivere, Lonato, Padenghe sul Garda and Sirmione. It has an area of 60 per square kilometers and a total Population of 23, 353. It has a Density of 394 per square kilometers. Starting from the 1st century, the area of the Garda, including what is now Desenzano del Garda, became a favourite resort for rich families coming from Verona, then the main Roman city in northeastern Italy. The city is a popular holiday destination in Southern Europe. It attracts a heap of tourists from around the immediate area due to its beautiful view of the Alps on the northern shore of Lake Garda, its three large beaches namely Desanzanino Beach, Spiagga D'oro Beach, and Porto Rivoltella Beach and its 27 major hotels. At the heart of the city is a series of interconnected piazze that house numerous open-air cafes, various shops, gelaterie ice-cream parlors and several bars. The city has one main port near the Piazza XXV Aprile which operates several ferries around the lake. Also, at the southwestern outskirts of the city is a large train station that connects the city to the European railway system. Desenzano is said the place of best geographical environment and can trace its origins back to prehistoric times. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and gain enthusiasm in its natural beauty and populace.
