Corsico
Italy, officially the Italian Republic or Repubblica Italiana, is a Southern European country comprising of the Po River valley, the Italian Peninsula and the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily and Sardinia. It is shaped like a boot and for this reason Italians commonly call it lo Stivale, the boot or, due to its prevalent peninsular geographical nature, la Penisola, the Peninsula. Corsico is one of Italy’s most popular destinations, and is well known for the quantity of cultural related attractions and monuments that the city has embraced. It is a city or commune in the province of Milan in the Lombardy region and is located about 5 kilometers to the southwest of Milan. Today, Corsico borders the adjacent municipalities of Cesano Boscone, Milan, Buccinasco and Trezzano sul Naviglio. Hence, it serves both as a tourist centre and a dormitory centre for these municipalities. As of 31st of December census in 2004, Corsico had a population of 33,694 inhabitants and an area of 5.4 square kilometers. The industrial development in Corsico has been a determining factor for its economic growth and population and although the industry is losing force in the last decades, the might of the sector services continues attracting new inhabitants in the city. Presently, the city also experiences a sharp social, economic and population growth derivative of the strategic position of the locality and the high level of well-being and quality of life that is enjoyed with respect to other places of Italy. Corsico, justifiably so, enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers, and is one of the most visited place. It is also the place of best geographical environment and can trace its origin back to prehistoric times.
