Cervia
Italy, officially the Italian Republic or Repubblica Italiana, is a Southern European country comprising of the Po River valley, the Italian Peninsula and the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily and Sardinia. It is shaped like a boot and for this reason Italians commonly call it lo Stivale, the boot or, due to its prevalent peninsular geographical nature, la Penisola, the Peninsula. Worthy of a visit is the local Theatre, Suffragio Church, with its organ by Callido, St. Antonio's church and the small Pisacane square where there is a historical building which was once the Fish Market. Of particular beauty is the suspended carpet, a multi-coloured carpet decorated with mosaic, conceived by Tonino Guerra on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the Foundation of New Cervia. In the centuries old pinewood lies the Spa Centre of Cervia, regarded as an avant-garde structure for its perfect synergy between the latest thermal research work and nature. The Salt Pans of Cervia form a nature reserve which covers an area of 827 hectares from where liman or lagoon mud and water, precious elements for a healthy life, are extracted. In Cervia it is the venue of great sports events among which some of the most important are the International Kite Festival, Sportur, International Dance Festival, Palio Della Voga and Sprint Kite News. Cervia, the antique city of salt, is not just a seaside resort, but also a town steeped in culture and history. By strolling around the centre you will discover the charm of a city which was completely reconstructed brick by brick at the end of the XVII century. Since 1999 the Municipality of Cervia has been awarded the Blue Flag every year The Blue Flag is a symbol of high environmental standards as well as good sanitary and safety facilities at the beach or marina. The Blue Flag Campaign is owned and run by the independent non-profit organisation FEEE, Foundation for Environmental Education in Europe. The award is granted for one season at a time on the basis of compliance with 26 criteria for beaches and 16 for marinas.
Cervia, justifiably so, enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers, and is one of the most visited place. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and pursue enthusiasm in its natural beauty and populace.
