Cava de' Tirreni

Italy, officially the Italian Republic or Repubblica Italiana, is a Southern European country comprising of the Po River valley, the Italian Peninsula and the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily and Sardinia. It is shaped like a boot and for this reason Italians commonly call it lo Stivale, the boot or, due to its prevalent peninsular geographical nature, la Penisola, the Peninsula. Inhabitants of Italy are referred to as Italians. Their official language is Standard Italian, descendant of Tuscan dialect and a direct descendant of Latin. The word Italy is derived from the Homeric Aeolic word which means bull. Today, despite regional variations in the form of accents and vowel emphasis, Italian is fully comprehensible to most throughout the country.

Cava de' Tirreni is a town and commune of Campania, Italy, in the province of Salerno, 10 kilometers north west by rail from the town of Salerno. It lies in a richly cultivated valley, surrounded by wooded hills, and is a favourite tourist resort. A mile to the south-west is the village of Corpo di Cava, with the Benedictine abbey of La Trinita della Cava, founded in 1025 by St Alferius. The church and the greater part of the buildings were entirely modernized in 1796. The old Gothic cloisters are preserved in this region. The church contains a fine organ and several ancient sarcophagi. Cava de’ Tirreni is 180 metres above the sea level. It covers an area of 36.46 square kilometre with total population of 52,595 till the year 2001. Cava has a density of 1,442 per square kilometre.

Presently, Cava de' Tirreni experiences a sharp social, economic and population growth derivative of the strategic position of the locality and the high level of well-being and quality of life that is enjoyed with respect to other places of Italy. Cava de’ Tirreni, justifiably so, enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers, and is one of the most visited place.
