Castrovillari




Italy, officially the Italian Republic or Repubblica Italiana, is a Southern European country comprising of the Po River valley, the Italian Peninsula and the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily and Sardinia. It is shaped like a boot and for this reason Italians commonly call it lo Stivale, the boot or, due to its prevalent peninsular geographical nature, la Penisola, the Peninsula.
 
Castrovillari is town and comune in the province of Cosenza in the Calabria region of southern Italy. Castrovillari  belongs to the province of Cosenza and is 74 kilometers far from Cosenza, is the Chief Town of the homonymous province. Castrovillari has a population of 22.389 inhabitants  and a surface of 130,2 square kilometers thus showing a population density of 171,96 inhabitants per square kilometer. It rises 362 meters above the sea level.
 
The municipality of Castrovillari had a popolation of 23.249 inhabitants accordingly to the results of the national census made in 1991. After the national census made in 2001 the population was 22.389 inhabitants, thus showing during the years 1991 to 2001 a percentual variation of -3,70 percent inhabitants. The inhabitants are distributed in 7.406 families with an average of 3,02 people per family. The territory of the municipality lies between 43 and 2.266 meters above sea level. The altimetric spawn is thus of 2.223 meter.
 
Castrovillari can also be described as the best geographical environment and can trace its origins back to prehistoric times. This is evident from the archaeological sites found throughout Castrovillari. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and gain enthusiasm in its natural beauty and populace.
