Casalecchio di Reno
Italy, officially the Italian Republic or Repubblica Italiana, is a Southern European country comprising of the Po River valley, the Italian Peninsula and the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily and Sardinia. It is shaped like a boot and for this reason Italians commonly call it lo Stivale, the boot or, due to its prevalent peninsular geographical nature, la Penisola, the Peninsula. Casalecchio di Reno is a community, which is located in the Province of Bologna, Emilia-Romagna, northern Italy. The mayor of the region is Simone Gamberini from June, 2004. The elevation of the place is 61 meters with an area of 17 squared kilometers. It has a population of 32,877 inhabitants as of the December 31, 2004 survey. The density of population in the area is 1,934 squared kilometers. The time zone for the region is CET, Central European Time and the Coordinated Universal Time is 1. The major holiday of the place is on November 11 for the Patron St. Martin day. Casalecchio's name is derived from Casaliculum, which means collection of little houses. The word Reno is derived from a Germanic word meaning stream or river. The region has archaeological riches dating from the Paleolithic and Villanovan period. The Etruscan remnants are also found in Casalecchio di Reno. The inhabitants of the region are called Casalecchiesi. The region faced a Battle of Casalecchio, which took place on June 26, 1402. A city known for its historic myths and traditions, scenic beauty, cooperative people and luxurious hotels and cottages, Casalecchio di Reno is one of the favorite holiday destinations for most of the vacation lovers.
