Cantu
Italy, officially the Italian Republic, is a Southern European country. It comprises the Po River valley, the Italian Peninsula and the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily and Sardinia. It is shaped like a boot and for this reason Italians commonly call it lo Stivale, the boot, or due to its prevalent peninsular geographical nature, la Penisola, the Peninsula. Italy is called, IL Belpaese, Italian for beautiful country by its inhabitants, due to the beauty and variety of its landscapes and for having the world's largest artistic patrimony; the country is home to the greatest number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Rome is its Capital city and incidentally its largest city as well.
Cantu is a city and comune in the Province of Como, located at the center of the Brianza zone in Lombardy, a region in northern Italy between the Alps and the Po river valley. It is the second largest city in Brianza. It is situated at height of 370 meters above sea level. It has a population 35,153 living within an area of 23 square kilometers and has a population of density of 1,529 inhabitants per square kilometer.
Cantu was a source of conflict between the cities of Milan and Como. The Sforza of Milan took control permanently in the 15th century. The city's most significant buildings are the churches clustered around the Piazza Garibaldi, named for Giuseppe Garibaldi, who stayed there.
The basketball club from the city, Pallacanestro Cantu, won the European Champions Cup twice in 1982 and in 1983. As it is often regarded as among the most beautiful parts of Italy, it is one of the most visited places amongst the most die-hard travelers the world over.
