Camaiore

Italy, officially the Italian Republic or Repubblica Italiana, is a Southern European country comprising of the Po River valley, the Italian Peninsula and the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily and Sardinia. It is shaped like a boot and for this reason Italians commonly call it lo Stivale, the boot or, due to its prevalent peninsular geographical nature, la Penisola, the Peninsula. Inhabitants of Italy are referred to as Italians. Their official language is Standard Italian, descendant of Tuscan dialect and a direct descendant of Latin. The word Italy is derived from the Homeric Aeolic word which means bull.

Camaiore is located in a big basin at the foot of the first spurs of the Apuan Alps, Camaiore is closed towards the sea by a soft hills chain, which separates it from the coast plain. Camaiore is only 8 kilometer far from Viareggio and Pietrasanta and it is only 16 kilometer far from Forte dei Marmi and 24 kilometer from Lucca. Many towns are situated on the hills around Camaiore, all worthy to be visited.  Moreover some of them own a lot of particularly valuable monuments and interesting facilities.

The church in Camaiore is proceeding along the way towards Lucca after about 20 kilometer. The Romanic building, built during the XIIth century, has a bell-tower with mullioned windows on three different floors. The baptismal font inside was originally a precious Roman stone coffin belonging to the third century.

A city known for its historic myths and traditions, scenic beauty, cooperative people and luxurious hotels and cottages, Camaiore is one of the favorite holiday destinations for most of the vacation lovers.
