Battipaglia
Italy, officially the Italian Republic or Repubblica Italiana, is a Southern European country comprising of the Po River valley, the Italian Peninsula and the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily and Sardinia. It is shaped like a boot and for this reason Italians commonly call it lo Stivale, the boot or, due to its prevalent peninsular geographical nature, la Penisola, the Peninsula.
Battipaglia is a town and commune in the province of Salerno in the Campania region of south-western Italy. Battipaglia belongs to the province of Salerno and is 25 kilometers far from Salerno, which is the Chief Town of the homonymous province. Battipaglia has a population of 50.359 inhabitants and a surface of 56.5 square kilometers thus showing a population density of 891.31 inhabitants per square kilometer. It rises 72 meters above the sea level.
The municipality of Battipaglia had a population of 47.139 inhabitants accordingly to the results of the national census made in 1991. After the national census made in 2001 the population was 50.359 inhabitants, thus showing during the years from 1991 to 2001 a variation of 6.83 percent inhabitants. A city known for its historic myths and traditions, scenic beauty, cooperative people and luxurious hotels and cottages, Battipaglia is one of the favorite holiday destinations for most of the vacation lovers.
