Bacoli
Italy, officially the Italian Republic or Repubblica Italiana, is a Southern European country comprising of the Po River valley, the Italian Peninsula and the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily and Sardinia. It is shaped like a boot and for this reason Italians commonly call it lo Stivale, the boot or, due to its prevalent peninsular geographical nature, la Penisola, the Peninsula. Bacoli is a municipality in the Province of Naples in the Italian region Campania, located about 15 kilometers to the west of Naples. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 27,402 and an area of 13.3 square kilometers. The municipality of Bacoli contains the subdivisions of Baia, Cappella, Cuma-Fusaro, Miliscola, Miseno and Torregaveta. Bacoli borders the municipalities of Monte di Procida and Pozzuoli. Bacoli belongs to the province of Napoli and is 37 kilometers far away from Napoli that is the Chief Town of the homonymous province. It rises 30 meters above the sea level. The City is famous for its medicinal warm sulfur springs, purple oysters and mild climate. It was an ideal retreat from the heat of Rome and many prominent Romans had villas in the area. Bacoli is also known as the town of best geographical environment and has traced its origins back to prehistoric times. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and can also enjoy its natural beauty concealed by the beautiful landscapes.
