Augusta




Italy, officially the Italian Republic or Repubblica Italiana, is a Southern European country comprising of the Po River valley, the Italian Peninsula and the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily and Sardinia. It is shaped like a boot and for this reason Italians commonly call it lo Stivale, the boot or, due to its prevalent peninsular geographical nature, la Penisola, the Peninsula.
 
Augusta is a city located in the United States state of Georgia. As of 2000, the population was one lack ninety five thousand one hundred and eighty two. In 1996, the governments of the City of Augusta and Richmond County combined to form a single governing body known as Augusta-Richmond County. The consolidated city-county is today simply known as Augusta, Georgia and not by the consolidated name.
 
The city was originally named in honor of Augusta of Saxe-Gotha, and was the second state capital of Georgia from 1785 until 1795. Augusta is located at 33 degrees 28 minutes 12 seconds North, 81 degrees 58 minutes 30 seconds West. According to the United States Census Bureau, the Augusta-Richmond County balance has a total area of 793.8 square kilometers. 782.5 square kilometers of it is land and 11.3 kilometers of it is water.
 
Augusta is also the largest city within the Central Savannah River Area, a metropolitan area encompassing five counties in both Georgia and South Carolina. The city of Augusta is served by the Richmond County Board of Education with 8 high schools and 2 magnet schools. A city known for its historic myths and traditions, scenic beauty, cooperative people and luxurious hotels and cottages, Augusta is one of the favorite holiday destinations for most of the vacation lovers.
